initial, sound and light installation, fluorescent lamps, arduino, relay, microphones, loudspeakers, dimensions variable, 2014

Initial is an installation dealing with the sound of fluorescent tubes. Interacting with the exhibition space, fluorescent lamps are controlled by digital programming in such a way that they switch on and off independently of one another according to a random principle.
The sound of the light igniting, resulting from the occurring electric field, is taken up with the help of condenser microphones. It is then amplified and transmitted from one room to another via loudspeakers. In doing so, the physical boundaries of the exhibition space are expanded. Initial amplifies a noise of everyday life, detaches it from the functional context and transforms it into an expansive sound composition. It focuses on a sound that shapes our everyday environment, but often disappears behind the visual perception.
